Keep an eye on the Hot mess!

There is sooo many festivals in London! One among the bunch of the summer festivals is the Hot August Fringe for those who love queer night night!

This 28 of july, I assisted to the"Burn Film Festival" night, the reunification of little performances by cabaret artists and queer community's shorts projection at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.

For all queers lovers, I had the chance to watch screening exclusive materials from Hot Mess, a film on London's alternative drag & performance scene still in production (featuring Jonny Woo, Scottee, Holestar, Beth Ditto, Scissor Sisters, Peaches, Hercules and Love Affair, Pia, Amber) !

The last Tuesday society ou le jour où j'ai sniffé la marde à Amy winehouse

When I first saw it, ( a quick view of butterflies in boxes, fur and bones) I thought it was a stuffed animals shop. But it was stranger then that: people were sitting outside the shop in a round shape, as they were waiting for some kind of particular ceremony. The Last Tuesday Society. Still, i wrote the shop's name down in my little booklet and came back 2 weeks later with the girls.

But what was it?

"The Last Tuesday Society is the place for all the essentials of life that Tesco forget to stock. Quite possibly London’s strangest shop, this store features a wealth of curiosities including such items as shrunken heads, gynecological instruments, creatures in formaldehyde and rabid looking taxidermy." -Sarah Penny (thelondonworld.com)

In fact, this little museum//gif shop is the prolongation of and organization that create public reading and others kinds of strange events. You can read on their website that it's a "Pataphysical organization founded by William James at Harvard in the 1870s and presently run by The Chancellor, Mr.Viktor Wynd and the Tribune, Suzette Field with the aid of The Fellows of The Society" and that "It is devoted to exploring and furthering the esoteric, literary and artistic aspects of life in London and beyond"

Sooo, If you ever wonder to see the biggest mummified human penis, a scalp, strange wood dildos, pussy in formalin, a true fairy bestiary, stuffed cat and puppies for 2 pounds,

This place is for you!!

Before leaving the owner didn't missed the chance to make some cash-money by asking us a big COOL deal: Hé girls! Is any of you want to smell Amy Winehouse pooh? It's 5 quids for a sniff?

London's hidden stages: Wilton's Music Hall

Wilton's is the oldest Grand Music Hall in the World. Opened in 1958, after being a warehouse and survived to 2 world wars, it's now running by few fellows and it produces artistic & cultural events of any kinds.( cinema club, ping pong tournament, comedy, magic show, gigs).

I went to see a movie (BIG, 1988) and 3 littles performances (contortionist, magic, humour).
Was part of the London Comedy Film Festival and we all receive Love Da Popcorn. :)

Its soo crummy and cute. The atmosphere is friendly and local and there is a little bar & restaurant inside. Go there! (at the same time you will encourage the building's restoration)

See the website here: www.wiltons.org.uk

Hoxton bar and Kitchen

I know i'm late, I saw Grimes at the Hoxton Bar and Kitchen a young singer from Montreal at the beginning of august !!
If you go to london, you should definitively check for the gigs happening there, they are cheap and good! ( Miike Snow, Vampire Weekends, Marina and the diamonds, Fleet Foxes, Local Natives etc.)
I quite like this place located in Shoreditch, Hoxton square.

This song is great and the video is made by Londono

What's cooking good looking? Love da Pop Corn

Want to add a wow factor to your soirée cinema? I discovered this little business while I was watching a movie at the lovely Wilton's Music hall in East London. Little baggies filled with White chocolate popcorn were putted on each seat! MIAM.

I learned after, that 3 Saatchi & Saatchi advertising young executives started their own popcorn business 1 year ago, cooking and burning popcorn in their kitchen.

The flavors are cute (Reggae Reggae sauce, sweet ginger..) and the initiative they took after noticed a gap in the market for healthy popcorn is going pretty WELL now.

Even thought it was not always the case, you can see their story at www.lovedawebsite.com

"This story is called Being Roasted By Dragons. Once upon a time, Love Da Popcorn went on Dragon’s Den, on the telly. The dragon’s roasted them, especially Duncan Bannatyne who said, “This is not a business!” But Peter Jones said yes it bloody is, and Love Da Popcorn did a dance to no music.* "

Hamster Town

Hamster Town is a little play part of the Camden Fringe about a lonely divorced dad who develop a strange relationship with his hamster, truly missing his daughter and wife.

While Alan Hindle describe it as "both funny and little creepy", the play made me cry! Maybe it's because I suddenly understand why my dad became so close to our hamster, when my twin and me settled down to our mother's flat.

Maybe dad linked that hamster to us in his mind...in either ways, the moment when the little creature collapsed was a painful time in the family and probably my first experience with death.

As the creator of the play, David Ralfe, latest graduate from Jacques Lecoq theatre school in Paris likes to say:"When I was young, I had 2 hamsters and the epic, bloody Grand guignol conclusion of their small lives marked the end of my childhood".*

Strange purchase #2: Cake Glitter

Of couse, England is the paradise of cupcakes and afternoon tea!!

I found in a food festival a sale of cake glitter! You can either put in on cake as a topping or use it to make fuzzy drink (Champagne) more glamourous!

Maybe we can use it in other occasions?! What about sparkling gravy? hihihi

See HERE to buy it

Also see an other strange purchase: The matchstick-garden

Strange purchase #1: chewable toothbrush

In the underground's toilets of London, you will find Fuzzy brush distributors.

FOR 1 QUID you can get 2 little capsules that each contain a micro toothbrush filled with toothpaste that you can chew.

Strange, funny but useful.

Shopping in market

Little toy a bought 1 pound in a WE market (Hackney).

The Pharmacy of Stories

Coeurs : Cybele-Julie-Gen-Anabelle

The Pharmacy of stories is a little hide workshop in Hackney that we found in an alley on a Saturday afternoon.

Here is my Heart is a project where we were invited to craft an heart and write a little text about it. People can apply for a transplant heart or//and give one.

there are the 4 creations we made while drinking fruity tea :) (up)

If I was still in london, I would be there this WE.

The book Club

New discovery, The book club in Shoreditch. I went to a special event around 3d printing. (don't know why) ..Must say that i'm not really into that stuff (and it cost 10 quids) but the place is cool, good ambiance, good music, food, pingpong table, noisy (but not to much), young (but not to much), artsy, design and interesting special events of any kind. Can be quite packed in the week ends, I prefer in the week days.

My Intern hot list

  • Sad? Tesco lasagne Sandwich had once exist (RIP). A launch fail…probably because it contained the same amount of fat then 2 McDo Cheeseburgers.

  • Cool: In London, we can be drunk among girafes and lions by going to the zoo at night!(Thanks Dephine!)

  • Are we in a suspense movie? In 2001, a major shareholder of Aston Manor Bewery planned to contamine Bulmers Cider with a special yeast. The Bulmer’s employee who was paid 16,000 pounds to achive the plan reported the plot to the police.

  • Cartoon story : When Gaymers decided to Switch the 5% dry Blackthorn cider into a 4.7% product, a massive revolt movment took place! Well seems that cider isn’t just about apples but perhaps, identity… (Like if we once decide to ban maple sirup in Quebec)

Favorite quote: "Blackthorn is a man's drink, without being chauvinist, but my customers say it has lost bite and is too sweet. Blackthorn drinkers will only drink Blackthorn and so they are not happy about this." –pub owner

Bompas and Parr: The Jelly architects

Probably one of my best discovery of london, Bompas and Parr are an example of the best creative work I ever seen.

Science, art, ludic experience, gastronomy; those 2 "jelly architects" work with all the human senses to create fairy tales for kids and adults since 2002.
Forget about your fantasm of a jell-o pool when you were 12, starting few years ago with a jelly banquet, they add to their corpus great ideas and fantasies.

Among them, a chocolate waterfall, a scratch n sniff cinema, a "Gin-To cloud" (breathable cocktail!), a little artificial lake of punch that people could enjoyed and sipped on human-size nenuphar platform, a flavour tripping party where people experienced the effects of Synsepalum Dulciphicum that change bitter taste into a sweet candy flavor, glow in the dark food festivities, and a little chewing gum factory where people were able to create gums that changed flavors when chewed with a possibility of 200 originals flavors...

This summer, for the lauch of the sweetener (The truvia), they create a little paradise on the rooftop of the city where people chilled in little boats, floating on emerald water.

WHY CANT WE HAVE THAT IN MONTREAL?!
